I grew up in Colombia, in between Bogotá and a small coffee farm in Sasaima. I went to college at the Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá and majored in Biology and Microbiology. I worked in environmental education around Colombia for a few years and then moved to Austin Texas for graduate school at UT Austin. I completed a Postdoc at Florida State University before joining the HSU Biological Sciences Department. My favorite microbe isIsp.

Research

Interactions between microbial communities and their hosts. In my lab, we focus on research questions related to microbial metacommunity dynamics, ecosystem function and eco-evolutionary dynamics.
